Natural Awakenings Richmond

Summer Yoga Camp

Yoga with Nitya Summer Camp, a camp for kids 5 to 13 years old in RVA that teaches how to live yoga, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this summer with four weeks of camp running from July 11 through August 1 at Unity Church of Richmond.

A typical day at camp might include: walking meditations, hiking the trails behind the Carillon, enjoying time at the James River, morning yoga outside and meditation with relaxation in the afternoon. Counselors who were campers themselves assist in reading inspiring stories, making crafts and leading non-competitive activities. The camp’s vegetarian/vegan lunches and snacks are organic and GMO-free, with most of the produce coming from the South of the James Market.

There is a special field trip to Yogaville this year for the kids to see the famous Light of Truth Universal Shrine (LOTUS), camp in nature, hike, swim and celebrate Yoga with Nitya’s 10th anniversary with kirtan on July 29 and a performance of the play How Ganesh Got His Elephant Head.

Lydia Nitya Griffith, an ERYT-200 CRYT Integral Yoga teacher, is the camp director.
