Natural Awakenings Richmond

January/February 2016 Publisher Letter

Happy 2016! It’s a brand new year full of potential. What will you do with it?

You can begin by making a conscious choice to incorporate more health and wellness into your life. And you can to do this by visiting the practitioners and businesses listed in our annual directory, the 2016 Natural Health and Wellness Guide. Hold onto this issue and refer to it throughout the year.

This issue also includes a wonderful article about functional medicine and finding doctors that are looking for the root cause of your illness, not just ways to treat your symptoms. While you’re reading, I hope you’ll whip up a batch of one of the healthy, savory soups you’ll find in “Super Soups”—just the thing to warm you up on a cold winter’s night.

Speaking of recipes, here’s a special Recipe For a Happy New Year:

Take 12 whole months.

Clean them thoroughly of all
bitterness, hate and jealousy.

Make them just as fresh and clean as possible.

Cut each month into 28, 30 or 31 different parts,
but don’t make up the whole batch at once.

Prepare one day at a time with these ingredients:

Mix well into each day one part each of
faith, patience, courage and work.

Also add to each day one part of
hope, faithfulness, generosity and kindness.

Blend with one part prayer, one part meditation and one good deed.

Season the whole with a dash of good spirits,
a sprinkle of fun, a pinch of play
and a cupful of good humor.

Pour all of this into a vessel of love.

Cook thoroughly over radiant joy,
garnish with a smile and serve with
quietness, unselfishness and cheerfulness.

You’re bound to have a happy new year.

I wish you much peace, joy and happiness this year.
