Apex MD Expands with New Services

Jan 01, 2017 01:40PM ● By Regina Rudolph

Apex MD Holistic Wellness has expanded over the past year, adding a variety of complementary medical and wellness services to provide patients with the most comprehensive care possible with a staff of nurse practitioners, a registered dietitian, a massage therapist and an esthetician, all working together to offer a full spectrum of care.

Two Family Nurse Practitioners, Amanda Ford and Laura Hoyt, aid Dr. Rumki Bannerjee and Dr. Suman Banerjee in seeing patients and establishing complementary care plans that best fit each patient to provide a holistic approach to care, taking into account the physical, mental and emotional needs of each patient.

Amanda Ford, FNP, is a graduate of the VCU School of Nursing earning her master’s degree with a concentration in family medicine. She believes in the philosophy that a practice is not just about prescribing a medication, making a diagnosis or healing a wound; instead, it is about recognizing and responding to a basic need that each human being has, both young and old—the desire to both understand and be understood.

Laura Hoyt is an ANCC-certified family nurse practitioner. She graduated with honors from Virginia Commonwealth University with a master’s degree in nursing in 2014. She enjoys working at a family practice center that emphasizes holistic integrated medicine.

The Apex MD nutrition program has taken off under the care of Susan Ramsay, MS, RD, who works with patients to help them achieve their health goals and reverse the course of chronic illness through medical nutrition therapy. She is a registered dietitian specializing in integrative medicine and holds a master’s degree in food and nutrition from North Carolina Central University.

Ramsay loves helping people learn how to use food to control their disease symptoms and improve their quality of life. Her specialties include medical nutrition therapy, weight loss and management, holistic nutrition counseling, meal and dietary planning, personalized lifestyle/fitness and nutrition counseling. Patients of all ages and backgrounds have had huge successes in working with these customized programs to lose weight, manage food allergies and intolerances and take control of their health. Weight loss and nutrition services are covered under medical insurance.

Caring for the whole patient is the focus of the IV nutrition, massage and skin treatment services offered at the newly expanded, state-of-the-art, Apex MD Wellness Center, located upstairs from the primary care practice. Allyn Clark, CMT, and Ana Agnello, licensed master esthetician, work with patients under the direct guidance and supervision of the Banerjees to provide complementary services ranging from medical skin care to medical massage and detoxification therapy.

Clark graduated from the Lotus School of Integrated Professions and believes massage is a way to help heal our bodies and manage physical and mental pain in our daily lives. She practices integrative massage, or massage with many different modalities. She has undergone extensive training at the California College of Ayurveda and provides a wide range of therapeutic Ayurveda bodywork services. Medical and therapeutic massages are covered under medical insurance. Agnello’s specialties include organic facials, detox facials, “a non-surgical face lift” and holistic dermal rejuvenation.

At Apex MD, all services are provided under direct physician supervision and each provider is a partner and guide in helping achieve patient health goals.
