More Horsepower On the Way

Nonprofit emPOWER Equine Assisted Services has been providing equine-assisted psychotherapy services at Cedar Row Farm, in Louisa, for almost two years, and is adding a new, second location in Chesterfield in June. A leader in a unique therapy experience using horses as part of a team to help people find understanding, new solutions and empowerment, emPOWER helps children, adolescents, adults, families and groups meet their therapy goals, just as they might in an office, but outside, with horses. No horse experience is necessary.

Equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) is a form of experiential psychotherapy that helps promote emotional growth and learning. Sessions are facilitated by a mental health practitioner, an equine specialist and one or more horses.

Equine-assisted learning (EAL) uses horses to promote learning to teams or individuals. EAL sessions are hands-on and the focus can be on learning, personal or professional development and/or team building. EAL sessions are facilitated by a mental health practitioner, an equine specialist and one or more horses.
