Taking the Sting Out of Beekeeping

The nonprofit Living Water Community Center is sponsoring a Backyard Beehive Initiative that allows people to support the local honey bee population by hosting a hive for the spring and summer seasons. Those that host a hive pay a small fee to enter the program and are paired with an experienced beekeeper. The beekeepers care for and manage the hive throughout the season while the host can learn about and observe what is required to maintain a beehive. Hosts also receive a portion of the honey at the end of the summer.

Living Water Community Center, located near Forest Hill Park, is dedicated to creating healthy communities through contemplative practices and environmental stewardship. Offerings include yoga, meditation, the Backyard Beehive Initiative and a community garden.

Cost is approximately $200. For more information, call 804-233-9261 or visit LivingWaterRVA.com.
